The Care Quality Commission has found that maternity services at the Bradford Royal Infirmary have improved but work still needs to be done, with inspectors saying the unit as a whole was still rated as \u201crequiring improvement\u201d.\u00a0Inspectors found the service \u201cdidn\u2019t effectively record or store medicines, which could put people at risk of harm,\u201d, and there were \u201cnot always enough staff to meet people\u2019s needs, which the trust must address to keep people safe\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to a new CQC report, the most recent inspection which took place in January, found leaders at the maternity unit ran services well \u201cusing reliable information systems and supported staff to develop their skills\u201d.\u00a0Karen Dawber, chief nurse at Bradford Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said that change was \u201ctremendous news\u201d. The watchdog also found that staff \u201cfelt respected, supported and valued\u201d and were \u201cfocused on the needs of women and people receiving care\u201d. However, Carolyn Jenkinson, deputy director of secondary and specialist healthcare at the CQC, said some improvements still needed to be made.<\/p>\n

Responding to the findings, Ms Dawber said \u201cWe are delighted the CQC has found improvements in our maternity services and the care we provide to women and their babies.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though our overall rating for maternity services remains the same, as not all standards were looked at by the CQC on this visit, it has recognised all of the positive improvements we have made.\u201d<\/p>\n
