{"id":4113,"date":"2018-09-08T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-08T10:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/simplylaw.waydevelopers.com\/england-wales\/a-new-era-for-price-transparency\/"},"modified":"2024-04-15T03:12:57","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T03:12:57","slug":"a-new-era-for-price-transparency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simply.law\/england-wales\/blog\/a-new-era-for-price-transparency\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Era for Price Transparency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Legal Services Board have now approved proposed new rules by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority which require law firms offering certain service\u00a0 to publish their fees online. \u00a0Those who offer\u00a0probate, motoring offences, immigration, debt recovery of amounts up to \u00a3100,000, and employment tribunals will have to implement these rules in December this year.<\/p>\n<p>The published fee information must also include details of disbursements, and whether they may be subject to VAT; and details of what is included in the services such as \u201ckey stages of the matter and likely timescales for each stage\u201d. The fee information must be displayed in a \u201cprominent place\u201d on the website, and the information must be \u201cclear and accessible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The action on transparency follows on from the Competition and Markets Authority\u2019s recommendation in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This comes at a time when the Annual Tracker survey from the Legal Services\u2019 Consumer Panel found that <a href=\"https:\/\/simply.law\/england-wales\/simply-law-fixed-fee-probate\/\">more legal consumers are choosing fixed fee services<\/a> over the traditional hourly rate more than ever before. The Survey also highlights the need for consumers to \u201cshop around\u201d and compare fees. \u00a0Previously consumers had found it very difficult to compare transparent fees because of the lack of available pricing information on solicitors\u2019 websites.
